My Final Folio “Kitchen Series”
Honest & personal self portrait in my home, allowing the viewer insight into my life
Photographs taken over a two week period from tripod and a fixed point of reference
Captures the essence of every day occurrences (‘day to day’realism):
-mum making dinner
-a cup of tea
-feeding the dogs
-friends visiting
-my mums birthday, a dinner party
-workmen on a ladder outside
Real day-to-day photographs –not posed, non judge-mental, natural, taken as it is.
One of the things I love about the photographs is the natural light, which is a really interesting light source which changes throughout the day, as the photographs are taken at different times of the day ranging from 5.30am-10.30pm
What sometimes seems to be mundane or boring can actually be interesting and visually pleasing.
Document of history, a personal journey and ‘my life story’
All the reasons why I would usually take a photograph don’t come into this series. It is very arbitrary, free from the norm and a totally different concept. It is almost allowing the camera to make the statement and capture the moment than a detailed, set-up, intentional photograph.
A lot of the interest comes from the scene being the same, and small variables changing which makes you ‘look closer’ as the repetition of the series progresses, your almost looking for the changes to see what is next.
I am proudly delighted by my efforts and outcomes, really enjoyed taking this series of photographs and hope to continue the series in the future as a personal document, It has certainly changed my opinion of what makes an interesting photograph. I Have learnt to capture something new, simple and beautiful and I think that is fantastic.
